Bangajit Saha, a senior Airports Authority of India (AAI) officer, took charge as Airport Director of Dibrugarh Airport on Tuesday, bringing with him extensive experience in aviation management. He was warmly received by AAI officials, staff members, and outgoing Airport Director Swapan Sarkar.

Saha previously headed Gaya Airport, where he distinguished himself by enhancing operational efficiency, modernising passenger amenities, and implementing improved management protocols. His leadership at Gaya earned recognition for transforming the airport’s service delivery standards.

A native of Bijni in Assam, Saha holds a Master’s degree in Commerce from Guwahati University. His appointment is viewed as strategically significant, given his understanding of the region’s aviation requirements and infrastructure challenges.

“We are confident that under Saha’s guidance, Dibrugarh Airport will continue to grow and provide enhanced services to passengers. His experience in modernising airport infrastructure and improving passenger experience will be invaluable,” an AAI official stated during the welcome ceremony.

Airport staff have expressed optimism about the leadership transition, noting that Saha’s regional familiarity positions him well to address developmental priorities and operational demands specific to Northeast India’s aviation sector.

Dibrugarh Airport, originally constructed in the early 1950s at Mohanbari—approximately 15 km from Dibrugarh city—ranks among Northeast India’s premier aviation facilities. The airport serves over one million passengers annually, maintaining vital connectivity with major metropolitan hubs including Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Guwahati, and Bengaluru. The facility underwent significant modernisation in February 2009 with the inauguration of an integrated terminal building covering 113,410 square feet. Its 1,829-metre runway is equipped for night operations and features aerobridge facilities, cementing its position as a critical regional aviation gateway.
