Security forces in Arunachal Pradesh achieved a significant breakthrough on Wednesday night when Assam Rifles personnel recovered two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) from Insu village in Namsai district. The discovery has raised serious concerns about insurgent activity in the region.
The two IEDs, each weighing approximately 1 kg, were found concealed in a hut located under the jurisdiction of Chongkham police station. Officials revealed that the operation was conducted with the assistance of highly trained Explosive Detection (ED) dogs, which proved instrumental in locating the dangerous materials.
“The IEDs were strategically hidden in the hut, and our preliminary investigation suggests they were planted by ULFA-I cadres. These explosives could have been used to target security forces deployed in the area, and their timely recovery has potentially prevented a major tragedy,” said a senior Assam Rifles official.
The situation has become more alarming as the owner of the hut has fled the scene and remains at large. Intelligence reports indicate that the absconding individual may still be in possession of three additional active IEDs, prompting authorities to launch an intensive manhunt.
“We have credible information that the hut owner is currently harboring three more IEDs. Operations have been intensified across the district to apprehend him before these devices can cause any harm,” the official added.
The discovery highlights the ongoing security challenges in the northeastern region, where insurgent groups continue to pose threats to both civilians and security personnel. The Assam Rifles has appealed to local residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to authorities immediately.
Security forces have cordoned off the area and are conducting extensive search operations in neighboring villages. The recovered IEDs have been safely defused by bomb disposal experts, and investigations are underway to trace the supply chain and identify other individuals involved in the conspiracy.
