Abhijit Gurav, an IPS officer of the 2014 batch Assam-Meghalaya cadre, took charge as the new Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Dibrugarh district on Monday, replacing Rakesh Reddy who has been transferred to Hojai district.

Gurav, who was previously serving as SSP of neighbouring Tinsukia district, received a warm welcome at the SSP office as he assumed his new responsibilities. The transfer represents a lateral move within upper Assam, allowing the officer to bring his regional experience to one of the state’s key districts. The outgoing SSP, Reddy, who led the Dibrugarh police force through various law enforcement initiatives, has been reassigned to head the Hojai district police. The handover of charge was conducted smoothly, ensuring continuity in police operations across the district.

Gurav’s appointment comes at a significant time for Dibrugarh, which functions as a major commercial and educational centre in upper Assam. His prior experience in Tinsukia has provided him with valuable insights into the region’s socio-economic landscape and security challenges.

District officials and police personnel extended their greetings to Mr Gurav, expressing optimism about his leadership. His priorities are expected to include maintaining law and order, strengthening community policing initiatives, and addressing emerging security challenges.
